WineFest Features the Best of the East Coast
 | | The official WineFest logo | Since the original France vs.
California wine tasting, it's been common knowledge that US vineyards are
worthy of competing on the world stage. While American oenophiles might take a
certain national pride in that fact, however, most of us aren't actually within
driving distance of a lot of those celebrated estates. Luckily for those of us
who live on the wrong side of the country to get the most out of the Napa
valley, though, Ocean City's annual Winefest is coming up, with samples from
vinyards around the East Coast.Starting September 29th, the 12th annual Winefest
on the Beach will offer a wide variety of wines as well as beers from America's
microbreweries. The $20 admission fee will include a complimentary tasting
glass, as well as admission to live music performances. Food specialties from
the DelMarVa region will also be served, so expect crab cakes and other local
favorites.
In addition to showcasing the Mid-Atlantic region's wines,
beers and food, regional arts and crafts will be displayed and sold at the
festival. The featured music will be by local and regional artists, including
the Pat O’Brennan Trio, a folksy Chesapeake Bay area band whose music is
inspired by the Bay and its American and Irish communities, longtime Eastern
Shore country rock favorites Bird Dog and the Road Kings, and 3 Penny Opera.
The organizers advise that guests bring a blanket or folding chair to enjoy the
entertainment, which will be presented on a folksy “sand stage.” Marriot
Vacation Club is also providing a kids’ corner for little ones who probably
won’t be interested in the vineyards’ offerings.

The events’ organizers are also
being careful to avoid the dangers of offering unlimited wine samples by
sponsoring an official Designated Driver program. Designated Drivers who
accompany their friends will receive unlimited Pepsi-Cola beverages, in
addition to the commemorative wine glass, in exchange for agreeing to wear a
wristband preventing them from being served alcohol. The summer season might be winding down, but this
event is a great example of OC’s commitment to year-round entertainment and
relaxation. This would be a great weekend to take in the last of summer’s
warmth while celebrating all the great culture and recreation that the
Mid-Atlantic has to offer.
