Turning Thanksgiving Inside-out America’s Thanksgiving seems to be mostly about food, family, football, parades and shopping. And sometimes gratitude manages to make a brief appearance. Growing up, my day began with watching the parades with fancy floats and Broadway samplers, then flipping to the Detroit Lions game. Mid-afternoon, a turkey and/or ham would be ready, along with three or four big casseroles, fruit salad, rolls and pumpkin pie.

Are You Revolutionary?

Scholars are clueless about it...And Christian churches are only vaguely aware that something seems different, but they have little idea what its all about..." "As of midnight September 30...I AM FREE! No more institutional church. Please pray for Kristie and me (and our kids) as we "detox" for the next three months (or so). We want to follow God, relax, and rest in His presence..." Read More >> |

A missional movement?
There have been some big numbers discussed these days regarding the contemporary house church movement. A recent study by a credible pollster and friend of the simple church expression has claimed that literally millions of people in North America are participating in "house churches" (i.e. simple church, organic church, etc.) . Taking in consideration several personal encounters, it just seems that a lot of lovers of God are simply dissatisfied and disillusioned (and in some cases ... Read More >> |

Community and Confession
When I was a pastor, I taught a path of discipleship that involves daily confession with our mentors-student-friends. The walk of a disciple in discipleship relationships requires a level of honesty that is essentially total exposure. One night after a council meeting at the church I was pasturing, a council member said to me, in reference to the practice of daily confessing relationships, “ Brad, no one is going to do that”. I have thought about this statement many times. To me it is ... Read More >> |
