find the path to deeper living with Jesus
What would it be like to live a life like Jesus? How would it feel to be launched out on his mission in the world? What did he know that made his life so world-changing -- that even now the effects of his work are felt my billions of people? REVOLUTIONARY is a series of studies about a lifestyle of service that flows organically from relationship and imitation of Jesus of Nazareth. In twelve booklets it follows the life of Christ, gleaning wisdom from his activities and encouraging the reader to apply each thing learned. This book intends to be both theological and practical, offering God-revealing insights and suggestions on pragmatics. More About the Series... The ideas for this series flow from The Pathways Project, a consortium of simple church planters at the 2005 Abilene Christian University Ministry Summit. These practitioners wondered what it would take to see thousands (or millions) or regular people take personal and group journeys to make Jesus real in the world. These incarnational pathways were based on the idea that Jesus is the Gospel, so more than just a message, the world needs Jesus himself -- really present in the lives of his followers. As we wondered about how to do this, it became clear that we had little information about what an incarnation pathway looked like. We knew we needed some structure, some way of thinking about it, but we didn't want something rigid and had no existing process to build upon. Authors and missiologists Michael Frost and Alan Hirsch (The Shaping of Things to Come) were with us, and they encouraged us to think in order of Jesus --> Mission --> Church (instead of the more common Church --> Mission --> Jesus order). So it was decided that the process we were looking for would most likely be revealed by studying Jesus and getting to know his ways. That's the short story of how this series came about. It is one of several things being done on the Pathways Project. The series is being translated into Spanish and is being tested in many contexts in New York City, Mexico, and other parts of North America. Feel free to join our project by downloading the book below and reflecting on its content and letting us know how you apply it. Currently, I’d like to extent thanks for those who have helped in the following ways: To my wife Susan, for supporting and promoting this work more than she is aware. To Dr. P. Kent Smith for heading up the church planting workgroup at the 2005 Ministry Summit at Abilene Christian University, and for overseeing the project from which this book results. To Henry Gomez, Amy Chan, Rafael Rosario, Jared Looney, Kurt Linder, and Hugo Monroy who have unknowingly contributed much to this work through our conversations together, who have volunteered to be the first guinea pigs in reading and using this material, and who have spoken many words of encouragement that keep me going. To Rocío Bustos Méndez, our Spanish translator, for the hard work of making sense of my writing so it can be communicated to Spanish-speakers. Also, to Hugo Monroy for editing the Spanish version and to Chadd Schroeder and his team of church planters in Mexico for reviewing and testing this material in their context. To. Dr. Thomas L. Robinson, New Testament scholar and experienced urban minister, for his work reviewing, editing, and making many helpful suggestions for accuracy, readability, and coherence. Thanks and Godspeed -- Benjamin Cheek
