What to do, what to do!
Written by Terry
Thursday, 16 August 2007

There is this guy where I work. He is African-American, in his twenties and an "inactive" member of the Crips. Jim (not his real name) is also a DJ, He keeps asking me to come to the club where he spins.

Did I mention that I work as a Security Guard at a weapons factory? Jim comes and talks to me during break times. Doesn't that seem odd? I am a 57 year old Security guard and he is a twenty something gang member. Is God opening a door or something?

I have to say that I don't drink alcohol and I don't frequent clubs. I'm not sure I would enjoy the music that Jim spins but I'm seriously considering going. Jim said that he will make sure I have all the water and coffee or soda I want. I have a hard time believing he even wants me to come.

This is such a stretch for me-way out of my comfort zone. But, I read in scripture:

"Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets." (Matthew 7:12)

And,

"'You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'" (Matthew 22:37-39)

And what about,

"When I am with those who are weak, I share their weakness, for I want to bring the weak to Christ. Yes, I try to find common ground with everyone, doing everything I can to save some." (1 Corinthians 9:22)

I am praying about this but I think I already know the answer. It will probably be another couple of weeks before I can make it to the club-I'll let you know what happens.

Lord, please show your strength through my weakness. Lead me where you want me to go-even if it is into the face of danger. Please open Jim's heart to your saving love. Amen

Keep the Faith
