In May 2007, Resurgence had the opportunity to participate in and record the content from the first Gospel Coalition conference. In this breakout session from the conference, listen as Andy Davis talks on Cultivating Biblical Meditation and Prayer. Andy starts by laying out a historical framework for meditation and experiencing God based on great godly men like Jonathan Edwards, Martin Luther and D.L. Moody. He also briefly touches on what biblical meditation and prayer is not and then he set about to search scripture for examples and where meditation is commanded and where meditation is commended. Scott Bartchy is a radical. He believes in a subversive system that embraces those on the fringes of our society and seeks to establish a new way of life that goes against the status quo.
Kind of like Jesus.
Bartchy, currently the Director of the Center for the Study of Religions at UCLA, notes a great gap between the original, early form of church in the first three hundred years of Christianity, and the modern concept of doing church today.
