In May 2007, Resurgence had the opportunity to participate in and record the content from the first Gospel Coalition conference. In this breakout session from the conference, listen as David Bisgrove talks on Evangelizing People in a Post-Christian Society. David Bisgrove, a pastor at Redeemer Presbyterian Church in New York City, discusses methods for tackling the increasing problem of of society's ignorance of the Christian faith. As our culture becomes increasingly pluralistic, we will more often encounter individuals without any Christian frame of reference. It used to be that Christians might encounter individuals that did not believe in the truth of Easter or Christmas for example. Now, our culture's separation from Christianity is often to the next degree in that individuals we encounter may not have even heard the story of Christmas or Easter. David Bisgrove talks about his church's commitment to bring the gospel to people in our own society who have never had any familiarity with the gospel at all. Scott Bartchy is a radical. He believes in a subversive system that embraces those on the fringes of our society and seeks to establish a new way of life that goes against the status quo.
Kind of like Jesus.
Bartchy, currently the Director of the Center for the Study of Religions at UCLA, notes a great gap between the original, early form of church in the first three hundred years of Christianity, and the modern concept of doing church today.
